Update September 2008

I've been looking for a new website to transfer Permies Portal to. If any one out there know of a good site, preferably a free site, that is easy for all to use please notify me.

I'm looking for a format that is uncomplicated and all Permies can use, so that if anyone wants to make additions to the site such as articles or adding events or Diarys for example David Neavyn had a Community Garden Diary here on Permies Portal, it has to be a site that is easily edited.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Jeannie

Update April 2008

Every journey starts with little steps and when I started on this path caring for Mother Earth, not many people were interested in the environment beyond what they could get out of it. Now people have begun to realise that keeping up with the Jones is not the only way forward and it won't make you happy.

I'd love to see even more people learn to live in harmony with the earth and each other and learn from nature along the way. We can create a stronger sense of community using meitheals (an old irish word for working together) where a community pulls together to help each other in the building of houses and working on the land etc.

I've been fortunate to attend college with a diverse bunch of people from all over this beautiful planet. Students have always come from far and wide to participate in this inspiring course that was originally set up by Rob Hopkins.

This site is dedicated to not just Rob Hopkins and all the past present and future students of kinsale Permaculture /Sustainability course but also to all those in the environmental sector in Ireland and beyond.

So now I'm coming to the end of my 2nd year on this great course. I don't know what will happen to Permies Portal ? Unless the new wave of Permies take up the gauntlet this site will become a sign post to those who are interested when it can become much more. I think it can evolve into a great portal if only there are willing participants to bring Permies Portal forward into a new era with all the growing interest in our course and in sustainability I'm hoping some one will. I'm willing to keep helping and will still be residing in Kinsale if anyone is up to rising to the challenge ...

Permies Rock
We're part of a movement of a new generation of Permaculturists. Like I said before some of us might have to create our own employment opportunities and hopefully we can keep in touch with each other and notify every one with updates here on Permaculture activities in our own localities and Ireland and all over the world.
This is an exciting time for all of us. All over the world we are starting to see a change in attitude. People are becoming more aware of the environment and they are starting to wake up. There's a growing awareness that we need to respect the planet. We can make a difference by just showing people that we can live more sustainably,we can have an important role to play in the years to come.

Keep In Touch

Ok so I figure if any of us hear of an event or a workshop or community events
such as the examples below
  • , Sustain Festival in Bantry
  • Someone needs help building a cob house
  • Someone is erecting a wind generator
  • Events within Cork Environmental Forum and Transition Town Kinsale
  • Any other ideas anyone ? ...feedback appreciated

Add your events to the events page
http://permies.wetpaint.com/page/Future+Events
This way we give each other a heads up on this site,it means we can all keep informed on activities in our local community and the broader community . So feel free to join and add what ever articles, photos or events to this site as you see fit.

Once a Permie always a Permie
Ex Permies let us see how you're doing or what you're all getting up to. We'd love for you all to keep in touch and for you to share what adventures or challenges life has thrown your way since you left the course. Let's share our experiences in order to enrich all of our experiences of bringing Permaculture to the world.

Getting Involved Is Easy

  1. First you'll have to register and become a member.ill
  2. If you just want to leave a comment under some one else's article, look at the top right hand corner and click leave your comments
  3. If you want to add an article do so by either clicking Add a page and you'll get a whole new page with your content on it,
  4. Or you can add to the bottom of an existing page by clicking edit content, for example just below this article I've added added a little video.
  5. Keep an eye on the upper right section where all the recently added sections will be shown to alert us to new articles added
  6. If you want to leave a note on the noticeboard it's now up and running and it's called "The Discussion Forum" it's to be found just up to the upper left of the page under the main menu.

Feedback

Remember to give plenty of feedback by getting involved (In Discussion Forum) as I need to know how you all feel in order to help the website evolve. Keep checking Permies Patch for updates and to see what events are happening and see what chats are going on there. You can also check the
Calender
and scan the up and coming events there too.

The breath taking music in this video I created especially for Permies Portal is reminiscent of Davy Spillane
