2 Years at Kinsale FEC as a Permaculture StudentThis is a featured page

2nd Year 2007 / 2008.........
Before you check out this page or consider doing this course please bear in mind that
many people say that our group had a special community bond, many students have been attending since then and haven't had the same experience as we had.Consider that different personalities can come into the course and this can create different dynamics.Conditions can change within the course to change this dynamic also.

Also things have changed at Kinsale FEC.. This year for the first year, both first year and second year of the permaculture course run to 5 days a week. It was different when we did it, things were more relaxed and we only did 4 days a week.

Adventure

We stayed at Shiplake Mountain Hostel

Here are some photos taken both around the college Kinsale FEC and out on field trips. One of the wonderful things about this course is the field trips, each one is an adventure, no matter what the weather.Above a photo taken at where we stayed while on a 2 day field trip in west cork.
Shiplake Mountain Hostel

Inspiration

We've seen some beautiful places and seen some inspirational sights thanks to our teacher Graham Strouts, whom I'm sure went to a lot of bother organising all these wonderful field trips.
The Hollies

The Hollies 2

What an Inspirational Place

The Hollies has always inspired me, right from the first time I visited there about 6 or 7 years ago when Rob Hopkins was starting to stir the imagination of the Irish people. He was teaching people how to build with Cob (I did one of his work shops) he was also introduce the people of Ireland to the concept ofPermaculture. Thomas & Ulrike Reidmuller lived there when Rob and Emma resided there and today they are making an impact with their "Living With One Planet" Education for Sustainable Development work shops for school children which I had fun working on this summer, and Thomas is also doing Mediation and Facilitation workshops, along withother members from the community such as Paul Flynn they are also introducing people to the world of cob building and their teaching of other sustainable living skills. In my eyes The Hollies will always be an inspiration to others.

Hands On Learning

Above is a photo with my class mates Virginia from Texas and Gavin from UK working hard at creating an Earthen floor. It was useful to have hands on learning, where we actually got out and did the work rather than reading about it.

Graham Strouts Permaculture Teacher

Thank You Graham

He has no idea how wonderful it is to be on the course and to anticipate the next adventure. Each new field trip enriches our experience of Permaculture and inspires us to want to live the life in balance with nature. Thank you Graham :)

Thanks go out to Klaus who supplied the photo.

Ecology Field Trips

Last High King of Ireland was buried here

A Hidden Haven

Here's a photo that was taken on an Ecology field trip to Oyster Haven. The photo shows where the last High King of Ireland was laid to rest. There was a really eerie / mystical light that day. I was awestruck at the magic of the place.

What a Way To End The Week

He always brings the class to beautiful places like this, every Friday I woke up with a smile wondering what we were going what were we going to learn that day .It was a great way to end every week. On a positive note.

Getting To Know Each Other

It was also a great day for us to get to know each other on a one to one basis, (as we tend to do a lot of group based activities as a team) and to socialise on our way to each destination, or as we stood taking in the beauty around us.We ended our week with a re-newed inspiration for the beauty of this earth we call our home.

Sandycove

Ecology Trip to Sandy Cove

What a Breath of Fresh Air
Here we are on a local field trip to a location that is quite close to college. Phillip loved to get us out walking, and walk we did... some times for hours on end. Phillip is a mine of information about our natural environment.

This photo shows some of the class that attended Ecology class. What a breath of fresh air!!
Killarney
Lunch time Killarney field trip

What a Beautiful Place to Have Lunch

Towards the end of the year Phillip really walked the legs of us. When we went to Killarney we walked for I think it was something like 5 or 6 hours. Luckily through out the year we had all built up our stamina for long walks.
He brought us to have lunch at a beautiful spot along side one of the lakes.

Thank You Phillip

We all enjoyed Phillips classes immensely. I must have heard every body who attended his classes through out last year, say they will miss his informative and fun Ecology classes next year and we all wish we had him for our 2nd year also
.

Storys by the Fire Side

Here's a lovely photo of Phillip telling us a story by the fire side in The Burren research Centre and UCG Hostel on one of our last trips. The organization he put into the trips and all the driving he did was wonderful. We all appreciate everything he did for us. He has a big heart and a lot of knowledge to share.
