Wind Turbines

Many people talk about renewable energies like they are a new fad.
The truth of the matter that only in the last 150 years has mankind
moved a way from renewable energies. Up until then our mills were
moved with the power of water or the wind, and the soil was turned
by the sweat of mans brow with aid of plough horse or bull.

If you look at the history of
Ireland
you can see one thing very clearly,
that up until the 1930's cottage industries flourished the farmer markets were in full flow and the local shops took their stock in trade from the local community. I was reading a book recently where somebody summed up the point like this,

“When a customer from out of town asked what time did the milk delivery arrive the reply, was whenever john gets here with the milk churn”

as most staples like milk , spuds and bread were sourced local in small communities and traded for what they didn’t have themselves.
I'm not advocating that we go back to all living on absolutely local produce, and reading by candle light, but what we have to do is get a synergy going between what is naturally healthy from the past and what modern practises we can use today.

The one thing I have absolute faith in is people ingenuity when faced with a problem to come up with a solution. With the passion that so many creative people have towards making the world a better place and using energy more efficiently, we'll soon be showing future generations our antiqued petrol engine car, and they will look at us like we looked at past generations using the horse and cart.

Jimmy Welcome to Permies Portal and Thank You for your addition to the web site, it's nice to get some input on that topic as next year we are starting a new module in the Permaculture course. It'll be on Renewable energies.
