Hi all,
I would like to move to Ireland and get settled in or near Galway or Kinsale. I currently live in Colorado (USA), am involved with the local transition movement, have taken a permaculture certification course, and also am a licensed landscape architect. I am open to living in a communal situation with like-minded individuals who would be interested in implementing permaculture ideas, either in our own living situation or as part of a consulting group. Basically I'm open to any/all ideas and could use some advice on relocation and/or work opportunities of any sort (just to get my feet on the ground). Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

Have a look! http://worldstove.com/ The Beaner Backpacking Stove
The Beaner is a bi-fuel fan-free stove without temperature control. Created for backpackers as a carbon-negative camping stove, it’s also currently being used in developing countries as a small cookstove. It can be used with dry biomass (pine needles, wood, etc.) or with any alcohol (ethanol, alcohol, vodka, etc.). It is also possible to add waste plant oil, such as sunflower seed oil, jatrovha oil or olive oil, to dry biomass for a 21% increase in energy.

Earthy Toes suggests on homepage that perhaps a different web tool might work better.... I think yes indeed... that Ning has been hassle free and very very successful for the Transition Ireland (& N.I) Network. Check it out here: http://transitiontownsireland.ning.com/

nice to meet you this evening! it's enough to sweat it out with TTK site!!! i suggest we move this to Ning and let it work almost on its own... that is if people take it up. the Transition Network ning site is flying. the permies could even just take up a group on that site. i don't know. there's energy there and could be good to tap into the wider community at same time. that said, perhaps the permie portal could live in the TTK site? hmmmm... let's meet and discuss! : ) M

You can build this pollytunnel as big as u like really. The more pipe you can get your hands on the more hoops you can do. It looks easy to put up .

Hiya,
I have a lovely room overlooking the sea, but no bedroom furniture. Can you help upgrade me from sleeping on the floor? I'm particularly looking for a double bed (mattress is fine), clothes rail (or something I can put clothes on/in) and a desk.
Thanks, Lindsay x

Hi all,
I'm posting this both here and on the Transition Town Kinsale website.
I made myself a list of things I wanted to do - in addition to the Permaculture course - while in Ireland, so I'm wondering if anyone else is interested or can point me in the direction of someone or something relevant.
1. Learn carpentry 2. Learn plumbing 3. Learn to use a chainsaw 4. Learn small engine maintenance 5. Learn to keep chickens - since I'm no longer to live on a farm, I was thinking about a chicken-coop, if anyone will be about over the summer to look after them - and/or has the land to house them 6. Learn beekeeping
I think that'll keep me going, but I'd love to hear if other people are interested in these or other things as well!

Hi all,
I'm either looking for a single room somewhere nearish (or within biking distance) of Kinsale, or 2 or 3 others to search for places with. I have a couple of leads but they are all empty at the moment!
I'm currently staying a few km from Kinsale, so can meet up whenever. Would like to move in as soon as possible and get settled in before the course starts.
Cheers,

Hi Eva, I see you phoned me yesterday. I had a totally hectic day,I was running from a workshop straight to looking at a place to live, then straight to a meeting, on top of all that I'd no credit..so sorry I didn't phone you back.
The latest on the house is...it's gone. I packed up and moved out. It's been so difficult to keep it filled . For instance one room alone had 9 different people rent / sleep there..oh my God....it was hectic. I just couldn't take it any more.FOr the duration of the summer it was empty just me and one girl who came briefly and missed her friends who all live in cork and bandon (she's from Austria) so she left after only 2 weeks. Then I just gave up...nuts eh ?
Im so sorry that the first time i met you I was wrecked tired I probably didn't come across well...just one of those days hun.

hey, there's a small library in the college, set up by students, maintained and extended by students. i have an approximate list of the books in the library if you're interested (i was one of the people taking care of it last year) but anyways, the books we were recommended at the beginning were The Earth care manual by Patrick Whitefield, the woodland way by ben law, grow your own vegetables by joy larckom. the tutors usually do a group order at the start of the year to make it cheaper and sometimes past students sell these books second hand as well. i can't recall the exact costs (2 years ago was a while...) but for the first 2 books i think it was abround 70 euros.... have a good day Lea

Hallo All & good day
My name is paulieee.I am looking forward to meet all yee new people.I have an idea that may be of intrest to you and foo alike. It is as follows.
In searching for a place to live,I have stumbled across a delightful Georgian house which is situated on 4 acers. The gardens are made up of a walled kitchen garden and a mature orchard. There are 6 bedrooms for renting. Rent is based by calender month and cost varies on bedroom size. All bedrooms are En Suite.
The remaining rooms in the house are; Flagstone Entrance. Hall leading to lounge which has a Georgian fire place and oak floors. Sitting room that has a fire place and oak floors. The sitting room opens onto a cobbled courtyard.Dinning room This room also has afire place. Kitchen Has a flagstone floor. There are 2 cloakrooms downstairs with wash hand basins. If the house and grounds are to be rented, 6 bedrooms must be rented. The house is in the Clonakility area which is approx 35km from Kinsale College I have estimated that it would take approx 40min - 50min travel time by motor vechile at ease to arrive at the college. If this opportunity manifests into reality, I would consider maybe my self be drive a mini bus / seated van or organize a service to travel to and from college. I estimate the round journey would cost between 3.50 and 5.00 per journey.
I am very open to suggestions and questions, so let the taught tickle your mind. If any one is interested in this rear opportunity to live in a beautiful house, in a peace full surrounding while having the opputition to garden and practice their new skills, while enjoying the company of like minded people and helping each other if you so wish.
If anyone is interested please fell free to contact me.
Lots of Love, Light & Laughter Paulieee

Either Norway or else there are some fairly attractive farms also in Cork. Any suggestions? Eva
